Go Green! Do we really care?

Today is World Environment Day. Yet another day, where everyone speaks about caring for our environment and then forgetting it till the day appears again next year!

Do we really care for our environment?

The term “Go Green” seems to be ubiquitous these days. You will hear it from every second person you talk to. The moot point is how many people actually intend to “Go Green”, because it is really very easy to say and equally hard to implement. For many people, going green is just about wearing green tees!

You will notice that big corporate people when it comes to give lecture on environment consciousness, would speak of using public bus and car pooling and the very next day would be happily travelling in their air conditioned cars!

The irony of situation is that to promote the “Go Green”, we actually end up in wasting invaluable resources. Have you ever wondered, how much paper we waste in taking countless printouts which has written “Go Green” over them or creating the “Go Green” posters!

I think we will contribute towards the betterment of the environment, only when each one of us starts doing something at the very grass root level to the best of our capacity! It could be as small as reducing the number of printouts! Small steps do make big leaps.

Let’s join hands in creating a better world, not just saying about it! Charity always begins at home!

“Go Green”!

God Bless!

Cheers!

Run Lola Run!

I can’t stop my hands to tap on the keys of my keyboard- “I finally did it”. I did it-the biggest favor I can do to myself. You must be wondering what on earth I have done?

The answer to your curiosity is- “I have started jogging yesterday! Hooray!”

Okay, I have started it yesterday but am writing about it today because I wanted to confirm whether I would be able to maintain the firmness on my decision or not. However, after second day today, I am sure I would be able to continue that. Yippee!

For the past two days, I am getting up at 6.00 am. I know it is very hard, and I have to push myself really hard to get up! But the feeling of satisfaction after coming from jog wins over the feeling to sleep and I somehow get up. When you decide something, the first day is usually the hardest one! It was same with me! I really had to put 4-5 alarms to wake me up yesterday. It was a constant battle between two parts of my mind- One was saying to snatch more sleep, the other was pushing hard to get up and go for jog. Initially the first one had advantage and I kept on sleeping after putting alarm off. However after a good tussle, the one who wanted me to jog won the battle and I finally got up!

The early morning really can’t be described in words. The fresh air, the birds chirping- everything seems so blissful.

Now the question is how on earth suddenly I decided to go for jogging? Well the answer is that I had been thinking about this for quite a long time now. And to since there was no determination, it couldn’t start! Over the last weekend gave a long thought about that, about the lifestyle that we are living in and how limited the physical movements of our body have become by sitting continuously in front of the computer! Common sense prevailed, and I said to myself, do it now before it’s too late!

I was just a matter of determination, once that promise was made; everything else took care of itself. Like I always say for any sphere in life-You can if you want to!

Next on cards- I will purchase a new track-suit over the weekend. At least that will motivate and get me going. If you spend money on something, you intend to make full use of it ;)

Run Lola Run…

God Bless!

Cheers!

Candle Night Dinner…!!!

No! This is not at all about my date as the title might suggest! Today Bangalore had yet another thunderstorm. Though it did not rain much, it was enough to disrupt the normal life. I had to stay late in office today because of my code review. When I was leaving, the rain had stopped and the weather had become very pleasing.

When I got down at my stop, I saw darkness everywhere. I got an inkling that some major electricity fault has happened somewhere. If I say, rains and power cuts go hand in hand, be it Maharashtra, Karnataka or Madhya Pradesh! When I reached my apartment, the guard gave the bad news that the power back up of the apartment has gone kaput. Hell! Was my first reaction! I got to know that the power was off for the last 2 hours.

When the power if off, life virtually comes to a standstill because we are so very dependent on it. No power- No TV, No Internet…nothing doing! But today I realized that this darkness was a blissful experience.

A bit paralyzed and unable to do anything, I sat in the balcony, sipping my tea and simply enjoyed the cool breeze that was blowing! I took my phone and called many of friends whom I was thinking to talk with for a long time now, but kept on procrastinating! It was the time for dinner and the power had not yet come, so naturally we lit a candle to have our food! It was good to have the so called forced “Candle Light” dinner. I felt God has set the stage for me, in a perfect manner!

Eventually the light came, and I am hooked to TV and Internet again!

God Bless!

I Promise...!

Disclaimer: Before reading any further read this-

“Promises are meant to be broken”

Today is June 1, starting of yet another month. As I mentioned earlier, time flies- the sixth month of 2010 has begun its run! We have already spent half of the year. And since its first day of the month, it is usually happy. Infact to be true, only few initial days of the months are the happiest. The reason being, your bank account balance is full for few starting days! Then gradually it gets decreasing and eventually becomes empty before the end of month itself! ;)

I was poring through the posts of the last month and was stunned to see that I posted only 7! 31 days of a month and only 7 posts!!! This dismal figure led me to take a pledge that I would post more posts this month. “More” I know is a very relative term but yeah I am sure for one thing- the posts this month would be more than 7! Having said that, I am assuming you have read the disclaimer first at the start of this post! ;)

God Bless!

Time flies...!!!

Shehar ki is daud mein daud ke karna kya hai? Agar yahi jeena hai doston to phir marna kya hai? The very famous line from the movie Lage raho Munnabhai depicts my picture for this month!

Its been almost fifteen days since I have written my last post. Infact to be honest, the month of May has been a dry one when it comes to updating the blog. This month time has flown like anything. Or rather to be true, I was so dwelled in work that I could not find time regularly to get the flow of thoughts! It was only coding and coding…

But to honestly accept, I would take the ownership for the lagging because I always feel there are 100 ways of not doing a thing, and only ONE way of doing it! And since I am far from being perfect, I always tried one way or the other to not to do it! Anyway, will try to improve on this habit of mine!

The only big thing that happened in this month is that one of my dear friends, Nitin, got engaged on 16th May. And it was his birthday too that day. So I guess he has got the gift of a lifetime. And he has joined the league of many of my friends who are getting married this year, ready to start the next phase of their life!

Wow! Time is really flying! When I think, I feel it is a matter of yesterday only, when we all used to go to school on our bicycles. And today one or the other is about to get married. It’s really been a long time, but feels a thing of yesterday only! Guess we are growing up, at least by age! :-)

We had a get together yesterday and it was all fun! Apart from this, life is moving at its own pace with the same routine! While I am writing this, suddenly the rains have started pouring down, and needless to say, the weather would become awesome now. Guess its pakoda time :-)

God Bless!

Dear Sunday...!

Dear Sunday,

You know I do, but I would like to announce it in the public that I love you. And this love is not of today; it is since my childhood and has been growing ever since!

Every week I eagerly wait for you and when you come, my happiness knows no bounds. I just love to be with you and when you are about to go, I become sad!

Though, these days, my idea of spending time with you is mostly related with sleeping long hours, eating and doing nothing. But do you recall my childhood days, how happily we used to be together and doing lot many things? I used to wait for you so impatiently to play cricket with my friends early in the morning. And after going home, how can I forget, Rangoli on DD National used to greet me back! I distinctly remember, at my home you were waited for because of Rangoli! For me Rangoli did not matter. I was more eager for Alice in Wonderland and the Jungle book! Mowgli and friends, Bhageera, Akdu, and Pakdu are still fresh in my memories.

We at that time did not have the X-box or the PS2 as the kids of today have. So our idea of spending your afternoon was to meet at somebody’s home and play indoor games like Business, Ludo, Snakes and Ladders etc. Friendship used to be meeting and spending time with each other.

Evening was again Cricket time again! And in the night, if mood comes, we used to complete our homework and start preparations for school! 10 pm was the time to say good bye to you.

Time has changed and I think so have we. We hardly see the early morning sun when you arrive; Cricket seems to be out of bounds now and the 100 channels TV has taken out the craze for watching anything! To meet with friends, we think twice, thrice or perhaps infinite times before making any plan.

Only one thing is not changed-the anticipation of your arrival!

Be always there for us and be the one you always have been! I love you Sunday :-)

God Bless!

Cheers!

Yeh AAM ki Pyaas hai….Dil MANGO more!

One of the many things that I am missing from Mumbai in Bangalore is Mangoes. The “Alphonso” or the “Hapoos”, as called in Hindi. If Mango is king of fruits then Alphonso without an iota of doubt is the king of Mangoes. The smell, the taste, the texture-simply majestic.

If you take my words, if you have ever taken the Alphonso, you would not savor any other species of Mango to that extent! The Alphonso would keep reminding its taste!

Bangalore being a big Metro city, I had hopes to get the Alphonso here as well. But they turned out to be false hopes, I suppose. I tried a lot to find the Alphonso in Bangalore but the efforts were going in vain as it was not available anywhere I searched.

And since I was not getting Alphonso, I did not have any other Mango! The summer season was going like that only without the Mango!

Lady Luck has a strange way of doing things, and last weekend she smiled on me! Riding on her smile, I luckily had season’s first mangoes. I was out for getting grocery to nearby hypermarket, where I saw Alphonso in the Mango section. Voila!

Hooray! Was my instant reaction! I was excited by the fact that the “mango drought” was about to end! I picked some good ones and got back home happily.

After dinner, when I cut the mango, I was scintillated by the smell! I relished the mango to full and the contentment is beyond words!

Mango is associated with one or two odd pimples on my face but then who cares? Yeh dil MANGO more…! :-)

God Bless!

Cheers!
